Where the DNS settings live
- Sign in and go to Upgrades → Domains (or wordpress.com/domains/manage).
- Click the domain, then DNS records.
Adding a record
- Click Add a record.
- Choose the type, enter the name and value, then Add DNS record.
Editing or deleting a record
- Click the record then Edit, or use the three-dot menu to delete.
Changing the nameservers
- On the domain page open Name servers and switch off "Use WordPress.com name servers".
Gotchas at WordPress.com
- Default records that keep the WordPress.com site online are protected and cannot be deleted.
After you save
DNS changes aren't instant. Resolvers keep the old answer until the previous record's TTL expires, so a record with a 4-hour TTL can take 4 hours to change everywhere. Use the Route Planner's live check to see what the world sees, and the troubleshooting page if it still looks wrong after the TTL has passed.
