Where the DNS settings live
- Sign in to your IONOS account and open Domains & SSL.
- Click the gear/three-dot icon next to the domain and choose DNS.
Adding a record
- Click Add record.
- Choose the type, set the Host name (blank or
@for the root), and the Value/Points to. - Click Save.
Editing or deleting a record
- Click the pencil on the record row, adjust it, then Save.
- Use the bin icon to delete. Records IONOS created for an active product may be greyed out.
Changing the nameservers
- Open the domain, go to Nameserver and choose Use custom name servers.
- Enter the new nameservers and save.
IONOS (1&1) nameservers
These are the values you would set at your registrar to let IONOS (1&1) run your DNS. Always confirm them in your own account — several providers assign per-account values.

Gotchas at IONOS (1&1)
- If the domain is connected to an IONOS website or mail product, IONOS locks the related records. Disconnect the product first.
- IONOS applies changes on a delay of up to an hour even with a low TTL.
After you save
DNS changes are not instant. Resolvers keep the old answer until the previous record's TTL expires, so a record with a 4-hour TTL can take 4 hours to change everywhere — occasionally longer if an ISP ignores TTLs. Check what the world currently sees before assuming something is broken, and see the troubleshooting page if it still looks wrong after the TTL has passed.
